Wardrobe for Different Body Types

IMPORTANT NOTICE BEFORE READING:

This blog is about 3 specific body types that I see the most in my job as a boudoir photographer. Wardrobe fitting can be based off of these three main bodies and adjusted. I want it to be recognized, though, that ALL body types are unique in their own way - as well as beautiful.

bODY TYPES

Curvy Girlies

We all know that traditionally, our curvy gals are not given the love & recognition that they need, but Living Goddess always has a place to pamper them and make them feel as sexy as they deserve to!

For curvy girls, I always suggest a high-waisted bottom, especially if it's cheeky. But my favorite part of our curvy girls are corset tops that cover the back area as well as the underarm and gives a nice push for the chest. That combo is honestly deadly for anybody who dares to look at a curvy baddie rocking that fit!

My second love for my curvy girls is definitely a good body suit. You can't go wrong in any way with one of those! They conceal the tummy area (if that's a concern), while also pushing up that chest area and helping with the back. The best part about body suits is that they also tend to have sleeves, which can sometimes be a saving grace for some of our curvy gals who struggle with liking their arms.

BODY TYPES

Mom Bods

I honestly can say that I work with about 80% of women who are moms -- and I thoroughly enjoy it, because I have two young boys at home! So I completely understand the struggle of having the "mom bod" and coping with the changes that come with having a baby, especially multiples.

It takes careful consideration with every mom that comes into the studio, because every person is different. While some of us have natural (a.k.a. vaginal) birth, there's also cesarean sections. Plus, all the different ups and downs to going through the pregnancy itself.

For most mom bodies I do suggest high-waisted bottoms. These can look like a thong or cheeky, and definitely help conceal the mom pouch - you know what I'm talking about! But other than that, I really don't like hiding scars and stretch marks unless prompted to by the client. For those clients, I do suggest a body suit - which are perfect for hiding stretch marks or c-section scars. I always love to suggest, once the client is comfortable, to try some nude images to embrace those areas.

As much as we may dislike the way that our bodies look, we can still have appreciation for all the beautiful things that they can do.

bODY TYPES

Petit Girlies

Most of my slim clients are usually young - around 18 to 23 years old - and haven't experienced body changing events yet, such as childbirth or their second puberty (adult puberty). Or they have, and they just snap right back! I work with clients that have this body type maaaaybe 15% of the time.

Note: this does not mean their journey is not just as important!

A lot of times what people don't understand is that girls who are petit don't always like their bodies either. They don't want to be small; it just so happens that their bodies won't gain weight. In some cases, I've seen petit girls that think they're fat - this is why I never judge or assume anything with clients! You just don't know somebody's story until it's told.

For my petit baddies, I usually suggest something that is going to give them a little more curve. This is going to look like thongs, and two pieces that have a little lifted area for the chest. I also love baby dolls, because they have little slits in the side where the legs are accentuated, making them look a little more curved.

I could go on

and on about all the different body types that are out there, but the most important thing that I want everybody to realize is that every body is uniquely shaped. Not one body is exactly the same as another. Honestly, I've learned that so much within the last 4 years - since more variety of women started booking with me!

We're all made to be dissimilar, and that's perfectly okay. One body should not look exactly the same as another. That's why whenever I work with every client, we go through a process of conversation where I figure out what they would like to conceal and what they would like to show off for the camera.

You'd be surprised by the power of opinion and what people may not love even if a stranger would be envious of it.

This is why I don't categorize my clients. I can try as much as I want to, but I really can't! For me, every client is individualized so that they have the best experience they could possibly get in the studio. I'm understanding of the different traumas they've went through and I explore what they love about themselves and what maybe they need time to love.

Just remember: your unique body is perfect in its own way. Everything that you love right now, you may not love later and it's the same with dislikes. We are everchanging. Our bodies support our seasons of life. So let's learn to love them for them.
